Removing Stretch Marks – The Inside Scoop

Removing Stretch Marks – How to Get Rid of Them
By Mel Paterson

Stretch mark removal is a subject that any pregnant woman, weight-lifter, teenager, or anyone who is susceptible to stretch mark scarring would love to get the inside scoop on. The sad truth is, stretch marks can’t really be removed. The best defense against stretch marks is prevention, and I guess if that was any sort of advice you wouldn’t be here reading this, would you?

The news is not all bad however. There are quite a few treatments that can drastically reduce the appearance of stretch marks. If treated early enough and frequently enough, those marks can be reduced to almost nothing, and be barely visible. These treatments have come about after some actual scientific study (a rarity in the cosmetics industry!) into the effectiveness of some ingredients at knitting back together the tiny fibres of skin that are torn apart in the stretching process.

These super ingredients not only help those little fibres join up, but they also help promote the production of collagen, which is the chemical that keeps skin smooth and supple, and is a vital tool in the battle to begin removing stretch marks. Some of these ingredients you’ll most likely find in any effective stretch mark removal product are: Vitamin E, Elastin, Collagen, DL-Penthenol, Squaline, Vitamin D3 and Aloe Vera.

If you’ve picked up a tube of some dazzling new stretch mark removal cream and it doesn’t have any of those on the ingredients list, you may have a dud on your hands. There are quite a few new and very effective treatments around now, so do your research and read those ingredients lists.

Get Rid of Stretch Marks – The Right Treatments and Lifestyle Choices to Help Eliminate Stretch Marks

Good Treatments and Healthy Living Can Help You Get Rid of Stretch Marks
By Mel Paterson

The first thing to keep in mind when talking about getting rid of stretch marks is to be realistic, as unfortunately you can never totally get rid of them. You can try all the expensive treatments out there, from the hundreds of dollars a pot creams, to the extreme laser and cosmetic surgeries, and you’ll never be completely free of them. But don’t lose hope just yet, as you can however drastically reduce their appearance, and feel much more comfortable with your body as a result.

Stretch marks or Striae Distensae are a form of scarring caused by the skin stretching too rapidly for the collagen in the skin to repair itself. This is why striae most commonly appears on pregnant women on their breasts, buttocks and tummies, and on anyone experiencing any sort of rapid weight loss or gain, such as teenagers going through growth spurts or those rendered inactive due to strain or injury, or gaining weight through poor diet.

The best way to combat this scarring and get rid of stretch marks as much as possible is by helping boost the levels of collagen in the skin. Whether this is through a topical treatment containing collagen or elastin, or through one containing ingredients that help stimulate production of these compounds, such as vitamin A, vitamin E or vitamin D3, Squaline oil or Aloe Vera is up to you, but the ones containing the natural ingredients are usually cheaper and less harsh on the skin. Just make sure they do contain one or more of the above ingredients, or all you are getting is an overpriced moisturiser.

Another thing to remember is the skin is the largest organ in the body, and as such will reflect your overall health. Keeping a healthy diet is a great step if you want to get rid of stretch marks, so eat well, stay hydrated and get plenty of exercise, and moisturise with a good quality moisturiser daily. If you are pregnant, double or triple your moisturising regime, and start your topical treatment early, as prevention works better than cure in the case of getting rid of stretch marks.

How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks Scarring – Say Goodbye to Ugly Stretch Marks

How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks Scarring
By Mel Paterson

Stretch marks are the striped scarring that occurs when the skin is stretched at such a quick rate that the body cannot repair itself properly. This is why the most commonly affected group is pregnant women, but teenagers, bodybuilders, athletes, and anyone gaining or losing weight can also suffer from these annoying and ugly scars.

As stretch marks are scars where the tiny fibres of skin are torn, it may not be possible to completely heal stretch marks, even with expensive surgery. However, if treated properly stretch marks can be reduced in appearance, and many people have had stretch marks disappear almost completely. Here’s a few tips on how to get rid of stretch marks:

  1. There has been much development in the field of stretch mark treatment creams and preparations. Now that some real scientific study has been made on the subject, a variety of great products, both natural and pharmaceutical, have been developed. Do your research and find products that contain Vitamin E, Elastin, Collagen, DL-Penthenol, Squaline, Vitamin D3, Aloe Vera as as these are some of the ingredients scientifically shown to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, as well as prevent their formation if treated early enough. There are treatments for new and old stretch marks, as well as for prevention and reduction, so read the labels and get the product that’s right for you.
  2. There is the option of surgery to remove stretch marks, but this has several downsides, including the prohibitive cost, the dangers of more scarring occurring, the pain and side effects. Laser surgery and skin peels don’t actually heal the scarring, only remove the outer layers of skin to reduce the appearance of the scars. Consider surgery only if you’ve tried absolutely everything else, and know a good plastic surgeon.
  3. General skin care can also reduce the appearance or prevent the formation of stretch marks. Exfoliate, moisturise and cleanse daily any areas with scarring or that may be at risk. Some people have reported success making preparations out of oatmeal, baking soda, aloe vera and other natural ingredients purported to get rid of stretch marks.

Get Rid of Stretch Marks Quickly and Effectively

Get Rid of Stretch Marks Quickly and Effectively
By Mel Paterson

As stretch marks are a form deep scarring on the skin, they can be difficult to get rid of. Most people are unable to completely get rid of stretch marks, but many have had great success in drastically reducing their appearance through treatment and good skin care.

Unlike some other facets of the cosmetics industry, there have actually been several studies done into the effectiveness of certain ingredients on reducing the appearance of stretch marks and preventing them from occurring. From these studies a lot of great products have been developed in the past couple of years which can really help get rid of stretch marks.

However, the hocus-pocus cures are still around too, so make sure you read your labels and do your research. The ingredients to look out for are: Vitamin E, Elastin, Collagen, DL-Penthenol, Squaline, Vitamin D3 and Aloe Vera. If the product you are looking at has a few or more of those ingredients, chances are you’ve got something that’s going to help with reducing scarring.

There’s treatments specially designed for new fresh scarring, older marks, prevention, reduction, or any combination of these, so make sure you get the right one for your particular problem areas. Many reputable companies producing these treatments offer unconditional guarantees too, so that’s another thing to look out for.

There are other options to consider as well, such as surgery. The track record for surgery on stretch mark scarring is not great, with the general consensus being it’s costly, painful, and ranging from not very effective up to some small results. Laser surgery cannot remove scarring, only take off outer layers of skin to hide the appearance of marks on the skin.

Stretch Marks on Thighs

By Mel Paterson

Stretch marks on thighs or legs are one of the main problem areas sufferers have to deal with, as this is typically an area that is exposed during the warmer months or of course when wearing a swimsuit.

No one wants to have to cover up due to nasty scarring, especially when relaxing at the beach or on holiday, and unfortunately these nasty little scars force many of us to do just that. Read on and we’ll examine some ways you can deal with and hopefully reduce or improve the appearance of stretch marks on thighs.

Stretch marks, or striae distensae, come about when the body changes shape too fast for the skin to keep up. The skin becomes stretched beyond its limit to repair itself, and the protein that keeps our skin soft and stretchy, known as collagen, becomes thinned out in the area that is under the strain of the stretching.

This causes the tiny fibers in the skin to tear, which leaves a red or purple mark on the skin. These red or purple marks eventually fade into a scar that is usually silver or white, is usually distinctly differently coloured to the rest of the skin, and is often a different, dry or rough texture to other skin.

Sufferers of stretch marks on thighs have had marked success with a process called dermabrasion, which is when a dermatologist or doctor applies a chemical to the skin that burns away the uppermost layers of skin, causing new skin to grow.

This procedure seems to have more success on thighs than on other areas of the body, possibly due to the thickness of the tissue and muscle around the thigh area. This process can be expensive and very uncomfortable, and so is not for everyone, but might be worth a try if you can afford the price and discomfort.

Stretch mark creams and lotions get a bad rap these days, but there are quite a few out there now that are medically proven and have seen high levels of success. You might like to ask your dermatologist or doctor to recommend one, and if your scars are particularly bad, there are prescription creams available that are much stronger than the over the counter kind.

Otherwise, try to find creams that are high in vitamin E, A and C, and or those that contain proven natural ingredients such as aloe vera, emu oil, and squalene oil.
